NATURALLY WEAK

Romans 6:19  I put this in human terms because you are weak in your natural selves. Just as you used to offer the parts of your body in slavery to impurity and to ever-increasing wickedness, so now offer them in slavery to righteousness leading to holiness. (NIV)

You can read the verses around this Bible passage from the Internet Bible: - in English, and many other languages

Although some Christians like to pretend that they are perpetually godly and always do what is right, it is not true. We are weak in our natural selves. We have no human power to overcome temptation and, in our wisdom, we will cheerfully offer the parts of our body to impurity and wickedness.

But when we are saved, we need to learn a different way of life. We also need to learn to struggle against the wickedness which used to be natural. A good start is to choose to put our bodies to work doing good - because we do not have to be slaves to sin any longer. More than that, we are now called to submit ourselves to God and get on with doing all the right things He commands.

Our weak sinful bodies keep calling us into sin; but the Holy Spirit in us commands us to righteousness. So the Christian life is really all about listening to the right voice and choosing the right action. Until that becomes a matter of habit, it has to be a series of hard daily choices. Failure to make the right choice will inevitably lead us back into wickedness. So today's challenge is to identify those areas of weakness and choose to serve the Lord instead of ourselves. That will mean different priorities for our time, energy, money and affections.

Prayer:  Dear Lord God. Thank You very much for the realism of the Bible, identifying my weakness and how to claim Your strength. Forgive me when I believe the devil's lies and think that I am strong enough to overcome temptation by myself. But help me to submit all of my weakness to You. Please help me to make the right choices today, living a righteous life to Your glory. In Jesus' Name. Amen.
